I’m trying my hand at Gurren Lagann-style illustrations! They look so deceptively simple… yet hard to mimick. @_@

I did the artwork in Toonboom Storyboard Pro (the program we use for boarding), and threw a texture on it in Photoshop afterwards.

One of the many things I love about traditional animation is the requirement that the animator really understand how objects interact in a physical space. This few seconds does a great job of demonstrating that understanding.

Wonderwoman has so much swag in this movie.

Oh damn, that’s some sweet animation. Maybe I should.. watch this movie.

This fight was my favorite part of the whole movie. Wonder Woman and Big Barda team up. Not sure who boarded it, but it looks like Lauren Montgomery’s work?

I keep looking at this bit of animation: love the timing: how the leg twirls around the rope, but also the head movement is really nice. She’s not just staring, her head moves nicely with her upper body.

Yes, I also concur this is awesome and another reason why Jay Oliva is a beast

My last bit of freelance for Young Justice was on episode “War,” directed by Mel Zwyer.
In the interest of practicing timing (deciding how long each panel appears on screen), I took the last section of act 3 and made it into an animatic. Unlike the previous Green Lantern clip, I have the original audio track for this one! :D Watching the animatic you can get a sense of what it’s like to board a sequence with only the spoken track. The exciting music and sound effects are all in your head. Well, definitely the sound effects. It’s not uncommon for us to make little noises as we visualize the scene – “pew pew” here and “kchowww bachooom” there. XD

At the time we were boarding this episode, we didn’t have designs for the key or the War World airlock. The sketchup model I put together was used as a placeholder of sorts. Watching the final episode, you can see not only how the designs changed, but how the entire board was streamlined by producer Brandon Vietti in the revision stage. This is always a learning experience!

Also, at the time I was cleaning up this board the design for Arsenal has not been finalized yet. That’s why he’s got a full head of hair… and I miss it. X)
